Translation language support

ActionClip uses Apple on-device translation and Microsoft Translator. Here is when each one is used and what each provider supports.

Looking for the app interface language? ActionClip supports 19 interface languages. App language is separate from the translation target. Learn how to change the ActionClip app language.

Direction, offline packs, and audio

Search the language selectors by name or code. Choose one target language, or a pair that translates in either direction. Text in a third language translates into the primary language.

Offline pack status is checked for each source → target direction, with both directions shown for a pair. Other source languages may require additional downloads. Online Actions enables Microsoft's fallback for unsupported Apple pairs, including long selections.

Show Play button and Show original text are separate options, off by default for new settings. Speech voices are shared with Speak. Voice downloads are separate from translation packs, and some Siri voices are not available to apps. Set up translation and speech voices.

Which translator ActionClip uses

Apple on-device

Selections of 200 characters or more. Also used for every selection when Online Actions is off. macOS may ask you to download a language pack.

Microsoft Translator

Selections under 200 characters when Online Actions is on. It is also the fallback when Apple does not support the selected language pair.
